Hi
As the title says, I have this flash drive that is only detected as 4MB.
I'm trying to create a image with DMDE, that can find a 15,6GB FAT32 partition, but it says it can find the sectors...
I don't think it will work, but....
What do you think it is? The controller failled?
Thanks

Yes controller fail or fake drive. This happens more with SD Cards, and quite often Kingston SD Cards.
Can you specify exactly what detects it as 4MB? windows/other? And also do you mean DMDE can or can not find 15.6GB Partition?
Has this drive ever held full capacity, meaning has it ever held more than 4GB?
I suspect fake drive here.

Could you post pictures of both sides of case and also both sides of PCB if possible?
last one: did you try running chipeasy? Does the controller and NAND give an ID?
cheers

Hi HaQue

The client said it was full of data, so I believe it should work the 16GB.
It is detected by windows as 4MB. DMDE can "see" that there is a 15,6 partition, or at least that there was one.
I'll send some pictures of it.
Guide Complete How Paypal 's With Bitcoin Beginner To Buy Chipeasy, I didn't tested.. I'll do it when I got back to store.
Thanks

I just realised I was thinking you said 4GB, now I see it is 4MB. It is possible there is a problem with partitions. You probably wont be able to do it in windows as the drive will be mounted (even though it is wrong) and generally wont let you do anything(everything will be greyed out) You will probably need to use diskpart. Not sure if it will be data destructive, so may be better to use chip-off solution.

Another common fix is to use HP Flash Drive format, but again, not sure how well the data will survive.
Alternatively can you take an image of the whole device with DMDE and run recover on that? meaning not partition, but select the drive

The controller and Flash part is consistent with a Kingston DataTraveler, so probably genuine, and I think partitioning is the issue.
If you cant image with DMDE, then chip-off recovery should do the trick

ISTM that the flash drive may have a firmware problem that limits its physical capacity, yet the fact that DMDE can see a partition would suggest that this part of the drive is still readable. Is it possible for a firmware problem to manifest itself in such a way? AISI, the symptoms appear to be akin to a HDD with a HPA.

can you post screenshots of what getInfo reports?

You may be able to run the MP Tool and see what the partitions are setup as.
not easy to use these utils, and may be data destructive. Here is a small kind of related post to help you navigate the programs.

I have quoted the client for a off-chip recovery.
If he refuses, I'll try all the other options if he says that there's no problem if data is lost.
For now, I don't want the get any chance of destroy it beyond recovery.
Thanks guys,
